An old stone cellar becomes a holiday home
The project:
The renovation project of Casa Garibaldi, an ancient stone cellar in the historic village of Civezza that becomes a holiday home, focused mainly on the conservation and recovery of this space which from the first inspection seemed magnificent to us.
The main objective, for a young Italian couple residing abroad, was to create comfortable and welcoming environments while maintaining the essence of the place.
The division of the spaces was the first step. After evaluating the habits and needs of the owners, we opted to keep the living area and the bedroom facing the garden , obtaining the bathroom to the north.
The first step was to connect it to the rest of the country by bringing electricity, restoring the water connection and connecting it to the sewer network.
Furthermore, being a property against the ground, we intervened with the installation of igloos on the ground and internal cavities of the walls against the ground, so that the apartment is theoretically insulated from moisture and cold.
The roof of the sleeping area has been completely rebuilt
And the three small openings on the garden have been enlarged, which was not easy as it is an area subject to historical constraints.
The choice of the color and material palette is linked to the theme of the surrounding nature that Liguria has to offer: olive wood, Sage green, The yellow of the hot summer sun, the burgundy of Granaccia wine combined with the style of 70s design that determines its shapes. Everything finds its maximum expression in the living area.
The living area
The entrance opens onto a large open space that combines the living room and kitchen, creating a bright and versatile environment. The sofa, modular and convertible into a bed, offers comfort and convenience. A 'granaccia' coloured wall, characterized by two large windows, Visually separates the bathroom from the living room, while ensuring excellent natural lighting.
The kitchen
The kitchen, created in collaboration with 3D PROJECTS , is equipped with every comfort. The spaces have been carefully designed to accommodate dishwasher and washing machine.
The bathroom
The real centerpiece of this house is the large bathroom.
The walk-in shower, set in a rock that we have resurfaced from layers of concrete, is the real highlight of the house. It has been designed with a drainage system that collects the drops of water that the rock naturally produces
The double stone washbasin rests on an olive shelf worked by our trusted craftsmen to put, while the lower shelf has been recuerated by the old wooden door that closed the cellar, before it became an apartment.
To the right of the entrance a niche has been created from a room that had the function of housing a water cistern. In this niche we have placed a single-seater sauna.
