Abretio Design Studio he was involved in a Conservative Renovation where an old village shop has become a unique holiday home.
We took care of the Conservative Renovation Project of Cà del Vescovo, where the goal was to keep intact the evocative atmosphere of this ancient structure, respecting the materials and the history but making it comfortable and welcoming.
Customers wanted a holiday home functional to be used for short-term rentals that preserves the existing style, with six beds and a comfortable bathroom.
We started with the complete renovation of the plumbing and electrical systems, dated and no longer up to standard. We have chosen a special epoxy resin for the floor covering, Specially treated to look ancient and time-worn.
The house is spread over two floors: on the ground floor the living area and the bathroom, On the first floor there is the sleeping area. An iron spiral staircase, masterfully crafted by one of our trusted blacksmiths, connects the ground floor with the first.
The clients' request was to furnish the house in a functional way with low costs, so that guests could enjoy functional spaces without investing a large part of the budget on furniture.
The sleeping area
The sleeping area consists of two bedrooms, which once housed the shop's warehouse.
The first is a double room with two single beds and overlooks the second entrance of the house. We have chosen to keep the original stone walls to preserve the atmosphere and historicity of the property by filling them as it was done in the past, with a mixture of lime-based stucco, Natural stones and pomace (Waste from olive processing) which has given the walls an ancient and evocative finish.
The second is a Double bedroom, The main. The cross-vaulted ceiling was plastered with lime plaster and painted, together with the walls, with veiled paint, also in lime.
That's why in the heart of a conservative renovation Lime-based products They are the protagonists for us:
- Lime is a product of ancient origin and is still made today according to ancient tradition, adapting ancient processing methods and recipes to today's production technologies.
- Lime is a natural biocide and does not promote the growth of mold and mildew.
- Lime finishes are antistatic (do not attract dust and dirt) and highly breathable, promote the natural passage of water vapour in the masonry.
- A good lime and quality aggregates make it possible to create finishes with vibrant colors, Warm and comfortable.
The use of shutters
We have chosen not to insert shutters or shutters on the windows, but Interior shutters.
Made from recycled materials, i.e. the bottom of an antique piece of furniture decorated by hand, act as shutters and curtains at the same time.
The conservative renovation of the bathroom of Cà del Vescovo has been built maintaining the authentic appearance of the house and its unique character.
The shower, made by hollowing out a rock, required careful excavation and modeling work. Coated in epoxy resin like the floor, The shower is perfectly water-repellent without the use of tiles.
Taking care of a conservative renovation like this, the transformation of an old village shop into a magical holiday home, It was a fascinating and fulfilling experience for us.
